2023 World’s Strongest Man Revealed


The world’s strongman elite now know when they will compete for the next World’s Strongest Man (WSM) title. The next edition of the contest will take place on Apr. 19-23, 2023, in Myrtle Beach, SC. They also understand the expected events, which were revealed in January 2023. Now, they know who they must overcome to reach the most powerful glory.

In Feb. 9, 2023, the WSM organization has revealed the official list of competitors is scheduled to participate in the latest iteration of the contest. Two-time reigning champion Tom Stoltman will look to continue his reign. However, in an all-around stacked field featuring experienced titans as well as rising stars, from one perspective, it is undoubtedly a tall task to achieve one ka “three peats.”

Here is an overview of the 2023 WSM roster in the order in which they were announced to the public:

The 2023 roster has 25 athletes so far, and three more will be revealed at the upcoming Europe’s Strongest Man (ESM) competition on April 1, 2023. Notable strongmen not yet mentioned include 2020 WSM champion Oleksii Novikov and 2019 winner Martins Licis. Novikov has previously stated that he plans to train for the competition, and may be announced as a late addition. Licis, on the other hand, will take a year off from competition and has yet to reveal when he plans to return.

The competition takes place over four days, with competitors challenged in multiple events each day, including two days of qualifying events and two days of Finals.

  • First Event: Loading Race– First day
  • Second Event: Deadlift Machine – First day
  • Event Three: Log Ladder – First day
  • Fourth Event: Conan’s Wheel— Second Day
  • Fifth Event: Kettlebell Toss — Second Day
  • Event Six: Stone Off — Second Day

Mitchell Hooper, who placed 8th in his WSM debut in 2022, was one of the first athletes to post a video of his reaction and initial thoughts on the lineup. Hooper took to his YouTube channel to discuss his fellow competitors, revealing that the competition is expected to eventually have 30 competitors listed, and speculated on who could fill the remaining spots.

The 2023 WSM is still a few months away and there is a lot to sort out before, especially regarding any of the remaining competitors. At the very least, the final puzzle begins to come together in strongman’s biggest event.
