Cody Rhodes changes his tune about WrestleMania being better without The Rock

Cody Rhodes has given numerous media interviews as he prepares for the WWE Title WrestleMania 39 The Extravaganza in Hollywood on April 1 and April 2.

Based on various reports and rumors over the past year, it appears that Cody was WWE’s backup plan for a main event match against Roman Reigns in case Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was unavailable to work the show. This is why it was especially interesting last week when Rhodes boldly stated that the current WWE WrestleMania 39 Options are “better” than The Rock.

Cody must have received a bunch of criticism for this quote about Dwayne, or he may have realized that it’s not the best political move to make, because he’s now holding back. This is the explanation he gave in an interview with Sports Illustrated:

I said it in a very nice way, but I said, ‘Hey, all due respect to the rock, I like what we have. But I’ll take that back. And I’ll say, WrestleMania is amazing. If The Rock decides to come to WrestleMania, please. Simply because we’re able to have a WrestleMania because of someone like The Rock. And Rock was able to have a WrestleMania because of someone like him. [Hulk] Hogan, Because of Dust, Husbands, and Vipers.

Our industry is not just there. The content is very important in keeping it healthy, up-to-date, and respectful of those longtime fans. So, I hope I’m not going to take a turn because I absolutely adore rock music and would love it if he was ever present. His family is hugely important to what we do, and if Rock decides to appear at WrestleMania, Hollywood will love it.

I will say, if The Rock doesn’t come to WrestleMania, we have an incredible, if not the best card ever, in the biggest card ever in terms of finances and gates, Two Days in Hollywood. So, it’s a win-win.”

Do you think Cody landed this time, Kaegisider?
