Nothing captures the essence of Bray Wyatt’s personality quite like Mountain Dew, which is why Wyatt and L.A. Knight wrestled in a Mountain Dew Pitch Black match this past weekend at Royal Rumble 2023.
It was a glow-in-the-dark no-disqualification match that climaxed with Uncle Howdy jumping into the abyss and blowing it up for reasons that defy logic. The whole point of the match was for WWE to get a lot of money to promote Mountain Dew, and in that sense it was a huge success.
If you were a fan of wrestling who enjoyed the silliness of it all, you might be pleased to read this new article from Hollywood Reporter As WWE Senior Vice President and Head of Global Sales & Partnerships Craig Stemmel teases another planned sponsorship match. WrestleMania 39:
An important piece of the WWE sponsorship puzzle in recent years has been brand integration. At last week’s Royal Rumble, there was a “Mountain Dew Pitch Black Match” that took place in (near) darkness, and Stimmel suggests there will be “surprises” at WrestleMania as well, specifically calling in a new sponsor, Cinnamon Toast Smash.
“I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s going to be about a match, sponsoring that match, and what they’re going to be able to bring to that match,” he says. “So we’ll do things that fit into our story arc as well.”
Other sponsors this year are Pepsi, Take Two, and Mars/Snickers.
Are you looking forward to watching Bray Wyatt and Uncle Hoody fight inside a giant cereal bowl filled with cinnamon toast on April 1 at WrestleMania 39? Or will it instead be a Cinnamon Toast Crunch Hell in a Cell game between Edge and Finn Balor?
