Former WWE & Impact star and current AEW/Ring of Honor member Maria Kanellis Bennett shared this morning that she’s heading into surgery.

The 40-year-old mother-of-two mentioned in her Instagram post that doctors will remove half of her thyroid gland due to the discovery of precancerous cells in the gland. They also believe it may be causing a number of other symptoms she was experiencing, including heart problems such as atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat).

Today I am having thyroid surgery to remove half of the thyroid gland that contains a nodule. I’ve been experiencing symptoms for two and a half years now. Heart racing, weight loss problems, skin changes, fatigue, mood changes, sore throat, anxiety, menstrual cycle changes, hoarse voice, trouble swallowing, brain fog, calcium deficiency, among others. But, with two kids, a pandemic, and separation so many times, I haven’t had time to really focus on it. Now, my doctor told me that there are abnormal cells that can turn into cancerous cells and the possibility of causing atrial fibrillation, which is a heart condition. So, with the full support of AEW, it is time. Thank you Tony KhanMega [Parekh, Chief Legal Officer]and the CD [Head of Talent Relations Christopher Daniels] for support!! And of course, thanks to my wonderful husband Mike Bennett And my wonderful mom for helping us through this time!! It should take about two weeks for the incision to heal and about a year for the hormones to balance out. I can work after two weeks without restrictions. I will save all your posts for you…

Here is a picture of my pre-thyroid surgery scar. ha ha ha…

Join us in thinking well of Maria, and we hope we can share good news about her diagnosis soon.
