Mark Briscoe honored his late brother by demolishing the house

Twitter AEW

AEW gave us a video tribute to the late Jamin “Jay Briscoe” Pugh early January 25th dynamite. On the night he was to celebrate his 39th birthday, save the best for the main event.

Ring of Honor’s Ian Riccaponi and Caprice Coleman join Excalibur for the call. Jay Lethal struggled to control his emotions from the moment he stepped onto the ramp. And when Mark Briscoe came out as Lexington, the Kentucky crowd exploded when “Rich for the Sky, boy” hit Rob Arena’s speakers, I don’t think there was such a drought anywhere in the wrestling world.

The match was great, but it also felt a little minor. The announcers reminded us that Jay Briscoe would have loved the violence that erupted, and it was hard not to smile when Mark punched Lethal’s Froggy boy through a ringside table…

…and won the match by finishing off his brother, Jay Driller. This led to the AEW roster taking to the stage as Mark spoke to his nieces — and brother — through the camera. He joined the men and women on stage, many of whom he knew, all of whom knew what Jamin Pugh meant to wrestling in the 21st century.

I wish this scene didn’t happen, but considering we have to accept Jay Briscoe’s departure… it’s hard to imagine it would be more beautiful.

As Reccaboni and Coleman constantly reminded us during the game, don’t wait to tell the people you love and appreciate. Thank you, Jay Briscoe, for reminding us of that – and for everything else you’ve given us in your nearly 39 years on Earth.
