The fitness community has grown in leaps and bounds over the course of the 21st century. It started with the internet and forum boards, where bodybuilding fans could discuss and debate athletes and competition placements. Then, came social media. First MySpace and Facebook, then Twitter, and now Instagram and TikTok dominate that space. Of course, you can’t leave out YouTube and its impact on the entire fitness industry.

You may be wondering what’s next, or what’s left, in terms of the ways the worlds of bodybuilding and fitness can connect. The next frontier for the global fitness community may be in the form of Metaverse and NFT’s

Don’t believe me? This is already happening around us thanks to the NFT company, MetaPumps. Earlier this year, founder Whitney Reid started this company with the goal of creating and selling it to customers.

“NFTs are non-fungible tokens. They are unique digital identifiers that cannot be copied, instead recorded on a blockchain,” said Reid. “They are used to prove authenticity and proof of ownership. “

Those characters come with tools and properties that will benefit them now and later. Those people who wonder why people want to collect NFT can think back to their own childhood when sports cards were the popular thing to get, trade, and sell. Reid found that his passions for collectibles and cryptocurrency could be combined in this venture.

“The MetaPump NFT project started as a fun side project I did because of my interest in the crypto space and collectibles. I’m a big collector of sports memorabilia and very early in crypto,” Reid explained. “The doing an NFT project is a combination of 2 of my hobbies.”

It’s never wrong to seize a business opportunity and try to succeed, but some of the most successful people in business like Tony Robbins and Gary Vaynerchuk will tell you that having a bigger purpose is the key to long life. Reid found his greater purpose at MetaPumps, creating a positive fitness network and community with a common passion for improving themselves.

“When I first started the MetaPump collection, my goal was to create a fun network of fitness-minded people/bodybuilding fans,” shared Reid. In the early stages of developing his brand, he joined forces with the four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler. Cutler and Reid have worked together in the past, and they both agree that this will be another positive step forward for the health industry and themselves.

“The first collection is a group of characters based on Cutler. Owning each NFT will give you some kind of utility in real life,” Reid said. Those utilities could include discounts on supplements by BPI or Cutler Nutrition, promotions by other fitness brands, and others can even connect people directly to Cutler himself. People who can only see Cutler on YouTube or social media do not have direct access and learn from a legend.

“NFTs are the next level of connection with Jay and other health personalities in our project.”

If you are familiar with bodybuilding, then you probably understand that Cutler is considered the most successful person in the bodybuilding business besides Arnold Schwarzenegger. Reid noted that he was always ahead of his fellow competitors, which is why he is still among the most relevant names in the game today, almost a decade after his last competition.

“Jay has always been at the forefront of community building, technology and being ahead of what’s next. I remember in the old days Ronnie (Coleman) and Jay would put out a DVD and it would be like a competition to see who would sell the most. .Jay became one of the first real social media celebrities in our space and I see him getting the same attention in the metaverse.

Thinking about NFT’s may be considered a waste of time in some people’s eyes, but Reid offers a valid comparison that may change your opinion going forward.

“Think about it. Subscriptions are the future of media consumption. Netflix, Hulu and more. NFTs are the next way to subscribe to access and information. “

It’s not just something that’s happening in North America, either. NFT has become a global phenomenon, and MetaPumps is one of the clubhouse leaders in the fitness space. Reid was recently in Dubai, speaking at DTEC Dubai Silicon Oasis about the development of a Metaverse gym, and there is already a movement developing in that part of the world.

“Dubai is ready to be the HQ for all things related to Metaverse. Our Metaverse gym is the center of the presentation. We talk about how anyone from any part of the world can train at the same time with Jay and other famous bodybuilding / fitness icons. The technology is there to make it happen. It may be very expensive to do it from home but I believe at some point in the future it will be a possibility.

It is difficult to avoid the fact that the market for cryptocurrency and digital assets is not stable in this early phase of development. As with most technological advances, it takes time for stability. Reid doesn’t shy away from that fact, and he’s optimistic about the future of his project and NFT in general.

“I actually think it’s a good thing for the market,” he explained. “It’s going to throw off a lot of people who are just in it for a quick flip and don’t really care about the technology aspect of the metaverse. I think we’re years away from fully training the metaverse but it’s coming when it wants to we do it or not.

There are big plans for MetaPumps in 2023, including the development of the Metaverse gym and even potential Olympia opportunities in the future. In Reid’s eyes, the potential is endless.

“It will be fun to see how it plays out.”
