Russel Orhii (90KG) Scored 4 Competition Personal Records at the 2022 USAPL Korea Winter Showdown

In today’s constellation of powerlifting superstars, it’s hard to come up with any bigger than Russel Orhii. The former two-time International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World champion (2019, 2021) is known for his exceptional ability to get any type of barbell in his hands. His latest power boost on a platform may be his best yet.

On December 17, 2022, during the 2022 USA Powerlifting (USAPL) Korea Winter Showdown, Orhii put on a virtuoso performance when he got a raw total of 885.2 kilograms (1,951.1 pounds). According to a caption from Orhii’s post about the sanctioned powerlifting meet, that total from Seoul, South Korea, is an all-time competition personal record (PR). Notably, the athlete advanced to the 90-kilogram weight class for the first time in his career during the competition and still improved on his first place result. while taking the highest total for any 90-kilogram powerlifter in the 2022 competition year.

Here’s an overview of Orhii’s top stats at the 2022 USAPL Korea Winter Showdown, where he also achieved individual PRs in the bench press (340 kilograms/749.5 pounds) and deadlift ( 350 kilograms/771.6 pounds) and matched his all-time best back squat. which is 195 kilograms (429.9 pounds).

The athlete wore a lifting belt and knee sleeves for his squat, only wrist wraps for his bench press, and completed his best deadlift using only the belt.

In his Instagram post, Orhii reflected on the performance and made it very casual as he may have temporarily hung up his lifting belt for the holidays. If he returns sometime in 2023, this time probably won’t be the last time we see Orhii shining under a bright light.

“I decided to compete at 90 kilos so that I could enjoy the full Korean experience, which in turn led to me putting together an excellent performance,” Orhii wrote. ” … The love and hospitality here in Korea is absolutely crazy. I’m really based on seeing the outreach powerlifting has around the world, and I’m grateful to be able to encourage others to take up the sport. It was a wonderful and unique experience that I will never forget. Thank you.”
