In his current competitions, Shaun Clarida has little to prove. The bodybuilder has won two of the last three 212 Olympia titles (2020, 2022) and, as he maintains his impeccable body with diligent nutrition and training, he seems destined to continue said reign as long as he wants. . However, for now, the athlete may be willing to challenge himself and try ventures outside of his usual comfort zone. He means a lot by competing in the upcoming 2023 Arnold Classic in the Men’s Open division.
A recent update on its 2023 AC preparations suggests that Clarida is set to maximize this opportunity. On January 31, 2023, Clarida posted a picture on her Instagram profile where he wrote that his body weight in the photo is 190 pounds (86 kilograms).
“We don’t hide it. Ready to shake things up in Ohio!”
With 2023 AC almost five weeks to Mar. 2-5, 2023, in Columbus, OH, Clarida’s present mass — including the stacked lat muscles on her 5-foot 2-inch frame — shows she can push her bigger peers.
According to NPC News Online, the 2023 AC is not the first time Clarida competes in the Men’s Open division. His first and only appearance in the category came at the 2021 Legion Sports Fest Pro, where he placed first. Otherwise, the bodybuilder is a 212 athlete in 22 of 25 career races.
Some in the bodybuilding community expect Clarida to eventually move toward a permanent move to the Men’s Open division. In 2022, the athlete did not suppress these rumors until mid-November, saying that he had “unfinished business” towards his second title at 212 Olympia next month. At the time of writing, Clarida has not yet clarified her plans for the 2023 Mr. Olympia — scheduled for this November in Orlando, FL. He could choose to chase back-to-back championships and his third 212 win in the last four years. Or he could follow in the footsteps of the peer who succeeded him for the 212 title in 2021, Derek Lunsford, and try to shine at the Men’s Open level under brighter lights.
What Clarida proposed in 2023 AC (a $ 300,000 prize though) is that he is now seriously considering making a move. He can start a new journey in his illustrious career in due course.
Regardless of what Clarida brings next in her career and what she fares in 2023 AC, it’s clear that this titan doesn’t plan on fading into obscurity anytime soon. Whether at 212 or the Men’s Open, Clarida is bound to continue making noise on the big stages for the foreseeable future.
