Carl Fredericks, winner of the 2019 New Japan Young Lion’s Cup and standout on NJPW’s US promotions, signed with WWE last month. He soon made his debut on a house show on NXT, at which time he was still billed under his real name.

He’s about to make his on-screen debut with this week’s episode of NXT Level up (FCA 205 live). When he faces off against Dante Chen in this show, it will be Eddie Thorpe.

from WWE.com preview:

Thorpe is an interesting newcomer who has competed all over the world and has the chance to turn heads if he can defeat fellow veteran, Chen. Chen Ho is 6-3 in his last nine matches on NXT Level uphaving recently picked up a hard-won win against Kale Dixon.

The Wrestling Observer points it out That Fredericks, who is Native American, likely used “Thorpe” as a tribute to soccer legend and Native American Olympian Jim Thorpe. WWE has already filed a trademark claim on “Eddy Thorpe”.

You can see if the 32-year-old from Reno, Nevada can “turn heads” under his new name at 10 p.m. EST on Peacock.
