dynamite Broadcast tonight (February 8) with a live show from the El Paso County Coliseum in El Paso, Texas. AEW is less than four weeks away from the next pay-per-view on the calendar, revolutionwhich is scheduled for March 5.
This is the end of the road for Bryan Danielson
Bryan Danielson was looking for payoff AEW World Champion MJF since the champ ended William Regal’s career in AEW. Friedman wants nothing to do with Bryan, so in typical MJF fashion, he puts a bunch of hurdles in Bryan’s way before agreeing to a potential match. Danielson has been tasked with wrestling and winning every episode of dynamite until February 8 to seal the 60-Minute Iron Man match against MJF at revolution.
Danielson’s path to a title shot against MJF began on January 11 with a win over Konosuke Takeshita. He followed that up by defeating Bandido on January 18. MJF was feeling breathless at that point, so they paid Brian Cage a bunch of cash to break Bryan’s arm in their match on January 25th. Bryan actually tried to injure Bryan after losing their match. Konosuke Takeshita ran in to prevent a worst-case scenario from happening, but Bryan’s shoulder was still damaged enough that his AEW doctor told him not to wrestle the following week.
Bryan ignored the doctor’s orders and entered the ring with Timothy Thatcher on February 1. MJF tried to run in and do the dirty work himself this time, but Takeshita was there to get away with it, clearing the way for Bryan to fight through the pain. And he got the win.
It all culminates tonight when Brian goes with RUSH, who MJF offers several bags full of money if he can beat Danielson. Today is February 8th, which means Bryan’s long road to achieving the title with MJF is coming to an end one way or another. RUSH prepared for this match by defeating Christopher Daniels frenzy. That’s all well and good, but it would be shocking if Danielson didn’t win that match and lock out his main event Iron Man match against MJF at revolution.
The rest of tonight’s lineup
AEW World Tag Team Champions The Defenders hold their belts tonight against The Gunns. Daddy Ass put this title match together, apparently against the wishes of Max Caster and Anthony Bowens, which raised some questions about which team would actually help him win this match. Daddy Ass has turned on The Acclaimed once before, and doing so again will likely turn his unworthy sons into World Tag Team Champions.
Top Flight and AR Fox will challenge The Elite for AEW World Trios titles on the tonight show. This match came after Darius and Dante Martin pulled off an upset win over the Young Bucks in a tag team match. Can the underdogs do it again now that there’s championship gold on the line? If not, then will the Death Triangle return to TV looking for an eighth match with The Elite in action revolution?
The deck is stacked against Ricky Starks tonight when he attempts to run the Garcia-Guevara Gauntlet. The Starks will have to go through Daddy Magic, Angelo Parker, Daniel Garcia, and Sammy Guevara one by one. If successful, a rematch with Chris Jericho awaits. Action Andretti better be on standby to help Ricky out here.
AEW World Women’s Champion Jimmy Hayter has a non-title match tonight against Bunny. If the bunny wins, she earns a future title match. This scenario seems very unlikely. Will Saraya and Tony Storm make their presence known after a match by spray-painting someone to set up a championship match. revolution?
Similarly, the AEW MJF World Champion has a non-title match tonight against Konosuke Takeshita. If Takeshita wins, he will be awarded a future title match against MJF. Takeshita has been a thorn in MJF’s side lately. If AEW really wants to establish Takeshita as the big deal, a win over Maxwell is definitely one way to make it happen.
